Barbara Jean Gordon

Barbara Jean Gordon better known as Barb or BB of Decatur, Georgia, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2025, at Emory Hillandale Hospital at the age 67. Barbara was born in Cleveland, Ohio, to Marsha Dawson and Horace Gordon. She was a proud graduate of East Tech High School, studied at Cuyahoga community college, and dedicated her career to caring for others as a nursing assistant — a calling she fulfilled with compassion, grace, and strength. Barbara shared her life with her beloved husband, Lawrence (Larry) Sims who preceded her in death. Their union was one rooted in love and respect. Together, they built a life full of laughter, music, and meaningful moments with family.

A woman of deep faith and unshakable wisdom, Barbara was known for her warm laugh, her love of music, and her passion for studying the Word of Yah. She found joy in encouraging others and always made time to uplift those around her. Whether offering a kind word, a listening ear, a prayer or a scripture for strength, she carried the light of the Most High in all that she did. Barbara is survived by her three sons Lawrence Gordon, William D. Sims and Cory Sims, nine cherished grandchildren Jirbril, Chandelier, Jaylen, Jamir, Jameel, Yaniyah, Marshawn, Adayah, and Jacob, her loving sister & brother-in-law, Nona and Buddy Peterson, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, loved ones, relatives, and friends who were blessed to know her. Her legacy of faith, wisdom, and love will continue to live on in each of them. She was a faithful servant, sister, devoted mother, grandmother, and a beacon of light to many.
