Brenda Pearl graced our world on April 25, 1948. The “Baby Girl” of nine—eight living at the time, and she never dropped this title—was gifted to the proud parents of Anderson and Willie Lee Paster. Her birth was special to the family because she was born at Druid City Hospital, while most of her siblings were born at home by their midwife, Great-Grandmother Mama Hattie.
Brenda was an exceptionally smart student. She had good grades and spoke often of her childhood memories with longtime friends who walked several miles to school. Many of these students and relatives remain very close today. The “Four Musketeers,” a term later coined, were Bobby, Jeanette, Freddie, and Brenda.
Many thought Brenda was selected to integrate Tuscaloosa High School her senior year because of her grades, but also because she was brave. She was demeaned and harassed, but she withstood the trials and completed her high school diploma. However, she will always be a Druid City Dragon in her heart. After graduation, she moved to White Plains, New York, where she attended college and received an Associate Degree.
Life was great. She found love and married Earl Foster. From this union, Errol Barnard Foster was born on September 6, 1971. Brenda worked for IBM for many years in New York before transferring to Atlanta, Georgia. Not long after her arrival, she rededicated her life to the Lord and joined Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in 1985, where she served under Dr. Michael Woods for more than 20 years. Later, Brenda became a faithful member of Peace Baptist Church. She was active in the Young at Heart Bible Study group and served with honor on the church’s esteemed Mother Board.
She was both a local and foreign missionary, traveling to many countries—Jamaica, Belize, Africa, the Holy Land in Israel, and London, England, to name a few. She enriched the lives of those she ministered to. Truly, she was a SOLDIER FOR THE LORD.
Brenda was preceded in death by her mother and father, Willie Lee and Anderson Sr.; her sisters, Mildred, Edna, and Velma; and her beloved son, Errol. She leaves to remember and cherish her vibrant and witty spirit, her grandchildren, Emrik, Kalieysha, and Tradon. She also leaves many loving memories to her brothers and sister: Anderson Jr. (Claretha) Paster, Alfred (Mary-deceased) Paster, Robert Paster Sr., John (Laura) Paster, and Alice (Fred) Smith. A host of nephews, nieces, great and great-great-nephews and nieces; cousins; sons—Sulaymann, Kenneth, Shakir, Adolphus, and Decontee—and many close friends will sadly miss her.
Her life was a testimony of faith, courage, and love, and her legacy will continue to live on in all who knew her.
