Clemencia “Dada” Presume Charles, 73, of Port-au-Prince, Haiti) went to be with the Lord on April 30, 2025, at Grady Hospital after a long-fought battle with heart disease surrounded by her great-grandnieces Beatrice Simon, Daniella Province at her bedside and son Hubert Jeanty virtually.
Clemencia, affectionately known as “Dada,” was born on February 15, 1952, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, the daughter of Mr. Joseph Charles and Ms. Imente Etienne. She graduated from Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts, where she mastered the arts of cake decorating and sewing.
As a young woman, Dada met and fell in love with Jean Baptiste Franck Jeanty who went by Franck. Together, they had three children: Hubert Jeanty (born 1972), Mario Jeanty (born 1973, who preceded her in death in 2021), and Marjorie Jeanty (born 1975). Though life eventually took Franck and Dada in different directions, she later met the love of her life, Abner Presume, whom she married in 1989.
Dada was a talented cook, baker, seamstress and so much more. During carnival season, she could often be found contributing her creative touch to parade floats. She had a passion for bringing beauty into everything she did and was a fighter- raising her children with unwavering strength, often on her own. She was known for her open heart and generous spirit, never letting anyone go hungry and treating everyone like family.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Abner Presume; her children, Hubert Jeanty, Marjorie Jeanty; her grandchildren, Marie Kennie Jeanty, Jean Luc Doriscar, Jean Baptiste Franck Jeanty, Abdon Shenaïzaire, Winnie Fred Jeanty, Chris Eden Jeanty, Romario Jeanty, Steevenson Jeanty; and her great-grandchildren, Bethsaida Jeanty, Cassendjy Kathiana Doriscar, and Anne Laurie Jeanty.
Also cherishing her memory are her siblings: Claudy Charles, Rene Charles, Lucia Beauzile, Marie Rose Charles, Micheline Etienne, Marie Simone Marcelin; nieces and nephews: Yanick Province, Phaimy Joseph, Marie Jocelyne Renois, Marie Elsie Pierre, Herold Charles, Marie Kettelie Charles, Emmanuel Beauzile, Dieussica Voltaire, Fritz Voltaire, Noldy Charles, Marc-Elie Charles, Stephanie Charles, Fabiola Charles, Belinda Charles; great-grandnieces and grandnephews: Beatrice Simon, Daniella Province, Gina Simon, Johnny Simon, Nick Province, Niel Renois, Tamara Renois, Nathaniel Joseph, Tattianah Joseph, Laetitia Nelson; cousin: Jules Fritz Paul, Nicole Vasquez and too many countless friends and family to name.
She was preceded in death by her son Mario Jeanty; granddaughter, Kerline Jeanty; and her siblings Marie Andrea François, Charleus Charles, Jacques Charles, Jean Robert Charles, Fritzner Charles, and Menos Charles.
Dada will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunty, cousin, friend, and neighbor. Her warmth, generosity and love of family leave an enduring mark on all who knew her. We take comfort in knowing that Dada is now at peace and no longer suffering. Though our hearts are heavy, we are deeply grateful for the time we had, and we will always cherish the memories of Dada’s laughter, warmth, and kindness.
Thank you, Dada, for everything you were and all that you gave. Your presence was a blessing, your love a constant light. You leave behind a legacy of strength, compassion, and joy.
May you now rest in eternal peace, with the certain knowledge that you were, are, and will always be—dearly loved and deeply missed.
Farewell, Dada.
