Jeffery Cole Obituary

Jeffery Lynn Cole, affectionately known as “Pop Corn”, was born on August 7, 1960, to Annie L. Banks and M.C. Fields in Jackson, MS. Jeffery peacefully answered God’s call and entered eternal rest on July 31, 2025. He was 64 years old.

Jeffery loved the Lord and was baptized at Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church by the late Pastor E.W. Cornelius in Jackson, MS, at the age of eight. He moved to Norcross, GA, in the early 1990s and joined New Mercies Christian Church under the leadership of Pastor Jesse Curney III. There, he served joyfully as a member of the Men’s Choir and the Usher Board. Always greeting everyone with his signature warm smile, he faithfully served for more than 18 years until his passing.

Jeffery was lovingly raised by his stepfather, Luther Banks, whom he considered his dad. He was one of six siblings and cherished his large family, as well as the many friendships he built over the years.

He attended Callaway High School and Hinds Agricultural High School before continuing his education at Hinds Junior College, where he studied Cosmetology.

Jeffery’s presence was unforgettable. A true GQ gentleman, he was always impeccably dressed, exuding style and confidence. When he walked into a room, it lit up, and people naturally gravitated toward him. Charismatic, compassionate, and loving, Jeffery had a gift for making others feel valued. He was a natural leader—bold, unapologetic, and full of life. He loved to dance, cook, and connect with people. In his younger years, he showcased his dance moves on Black Gold, Mississippi’s own version of Soul Train.

In November 1998, Jeffery and Lorraine were married in Norcross, GA, where they built their life together.

Known for his love of conversation and natural charm, Jeffery excelled in every endeavor he pursued. He enjoyed a successful career in car sales before retiring as a Logistics Warehouse Manager after more than 20 years. His personable nature and engaging spirit made him a standout in every role he held.

Family was at the center of Jeffery’s world. He enjoyed hosting gatherings, preparing delicious meals, and creating moments of laughter and joy with his loved ones.

Jeffery leaves in God’s care to cherish his life and memory: his devoted wife of 28 years, Lorraine Cole; his three children—sons Jeffery L. Hughes and Tori J. Garvis, both of Jackson, MS, and daughter Heather P. (Kevin) Cole-Morris of Houston, TX; seven grandchildren—Krue J. Morris, Halo J. Morris, Jaquavian Garvis, Austin Garvis, London Garvis, Keith D. Evans, and Joshua Cole-Taylor; his loving mother, Annie L. Cole-Banks of Jackson, MS; his only sister, Darlene “Dolly” (Robert) Johnson of Jackson, MS; four brothers—Albert L. (Ester) Cole of Utica, MS; Calvin (Sarah) Cole of Pearl River, LA; Ray L. (Pam) Banks and Greg Banks of Jackson, MS; two special cousins—Shirley Thigpen of Spring, TX, and Belinda Cole of Jackson, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who loved him.

Jeffery was preceded in death by his father, M.C. Fields, and his stepfather, Luther Banks.

Jeffery’s legacy is one of faith, style, leadership, and love. He touched every life he encountered and will be deeply missed, but forever remembered.
