John Miller was a pianist, composer, arranger, vocal coach, and piano
instructor.
He has been studying and playing the piano for 80 years.
John attended the City University of New York.
He was the pianist and keyboard player for the Stanley Turrentine Band for
18 years and performed on four of his recordings during that time.
After leaving the Turrentine band, John enrolled in graduate school and
earned a Master’s Degree in the Art of Teaching from Lehman College in
New York.
He taught in the Nassau County, Suffolk County, New York City and
Arsdale Public School systems while taking graduate courses in Jazz
Studies at Queens College.
After relocating to Atlanta Ga he enrolled in the Master of Jazz Program at
Georgia State University where he created a book of Jazz Etudes at the
encouragement of his piano instructor Professor Kevin Bales.
John was a member of the First Church Atlanta located at 105 Courtland St in
downtown Atlanta near the campus of Georgia State University. The Senior
Pastor is Rev Dr. Dwight D. Andrews. John was a pianist and team arranger
for the 3rd Sunday Band.
John’s contagious laughter will be missed by his family of nieces and
nephews: David Daniel, Derrick Daniel, Dwayne Daniel, Douglas Miller,
Brenda Tyler, Cheryl Williams, Valina Williams, Robert Miller; John has
numerous grand and great-grand nieces and nephews in New York,
Maryland and Georgia.
