With deep sorrow, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and dedicated educator, Lucia Mehari, on July 13, 2025.
Born in Adi Bari, Eritrea, Lucia devoted her life to learning, teaching, and uplifting others. Her work in education and refugee resettlement touched generations—from Ethiopia to Sudan, and later in Buffalo, New York. Through her decades of service with Catholic Charities, she lovingly cared for young refugee children and remained a guiding light to Eritrean families building new lives across the diaspora.
Lucia's strength, compassion, and quiet leadership were a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew her. Her love extended beyond her own family, embracing community with an open heart and enduring grace.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 50 years, Semere Gebremusie; her cherished sister Abrehet, and her brothers Melake and Tedasse. She is deeply missed by her children Yohannes, Luwam, Solomon, and Wagahta; their spouses, and eleven cherished grandchildren. She also leaves behind loving siblings, nieces, nephews, and countless friends she considered family.
May Lucia rest in eternal peace. Her memory will forever guide us in love, service, and resilience.
A service will be held Saturday, July 19, 2025 at Debre Geezan Medhanealem Eritrean Orthodox Tewahdo Church Of Atlanta Area GA - 1904 S Stone Mountain Lithonia Rd, Lithonia, GA 30058.
