Maudine Phelps Obituary

In Loving Memory of Maudine Arnold Phelps
April 29, 1947 – June 5, 2025
Maudine Arnold Phelps was born on April 29, 1947, in Atlanta, Georgia, to the late
Warren and Lucile Arnold, Sr. She received her education at Carver Vocational High
School and graduated with the class of 1964.
From an early age, Maudine committed her life to Christ. She joined St. John
Overcoming Faith Temple Church of God under the leadership of its founding pastor,
Bishop M.C. Griffin, and was baptized by him in the mid-1950s. Alongside her sisters,
Martha Ann and Catherine, Maudine was trained in singing by their aunt, Evangelist
Mary Arnold Clark, learning to read and perform music using sheet music. Together,
they often won church youth talent competitions—an early testament to her dedication
and joyful spirit in worship.
In 1990, Maudine became a charter member of New Birth United Church of God Inc.,
now known as Word Alive Ministries, under the leadership of Bishop Anthony Dixon. At
New Birth, she faithfully served in several ministries, including the Finance Committee,
the Usher Board, and supported the Church Mother’s Board. Her love and reverence for
the church mothers extended beyond the sanctuary—in 1998, she took her mother,
Mother Lucile Arnold, along with several other church mothers, on a memorable cruise
to the Bahamas.
Maudine’s dedication to ministry didn’t stop with her home church. She was also a
devoted supporter of Rock of Ages Newborn Church of the Living God in Conyers,
Georgia, pastored by her uncle and aunt, Bishop Allen and Evangelist Mary Clark.
There, she again served faithfully on the Usher Board and cared for the mothers of the
church with the same love and attention she gave her own family.
A compassionate and devoted caregiver, Maudine dedicated her life to serving the
elderly and her community. She founded and operated three personal care homes:
Phelps Personal Care Home, Phelps Personal Care Home Phase II, and Caring
Hands—each a reflection of her nurturing spirit and commitment to dignity in care.
Outside of her work and ministry, Maudine found joy in cooking and traveling. She
journeyed across the globe with her best friend, the late Birdie Holloway, sharing
adventures in places like Australia, Hawaii, and St. Maarten—destinations they both
held dear.
On Thursday, June 5, 2025, Maudine peacefully entered eternal rest. She was
preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, John Arnold, Melvin Arnold, and Willie
White; two sisters, Martha Ann Hilson and Catherine Patrick; and one beloved
grandson, Kaleb Cooke.

She leaves to cherish her memory three children: Anitra Daniels, Raynard Beasley, and
Derrick ("Cubby") Phelps; four grandchildren: Marlena, Triana, La’Quitta, and Karisma;
and six great-grandchildren: Kar’Teema, Kar’Teia, Ka’Mauri, Landyn, Bellamy, and
Blaize. Her legacy also lives on through her siblings: Warren (Bridgette) Arnold, Jr.,
Major (Angela) Arnold, Brenda (Larry) Rogers, Verna (Albert) Pitts, Johnnie Mae
Griggs, Charles (Dwynell) Davis, and Alphonsio Davis. She is also survived by one
cherished aunt, Menita Sims; a special niece, Regina Hunt; and beloved nephews,
D'Shawn Arnold and Maurice Arnold.
Maudine’s faith, generosity, and unwavering love for both her family and her church will
forever be remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and dear
friends.
