Mike Henry Nance, 72, is now safely in God’s presence, rejoicing and singing God’s praises with the Heavenly Host. He was preceded in death by our parents, Luther B. Nance and Catherine S. Nance, by all four of our grandparents, by our great Uncle, Tiller Slay, who thought the sun rose and set in him, most recently by our Aunt, Frances Schroeder, and by his brother-in-law, Thomas C. Drake, Jr.
Henry is survived by his sister, Linda Claire (Nance) Drake, his niece, Cathy Harper-Drake (husband, Morgan), his niece, Leslie Drake, his great nephew, Kane Drake, his aunt and uncle, Jim and Mickey (Nance) Dye, and by numerous cousins.
Throughout his lifetime, he continued to study many subjects and tried his hand at many professions. He had always worked on automobiles, both personally and professionally. He enjoyed buying and selling vehicles, antiques, collectibles, and many other things through swap meets and other avenues. He drove 18 wheelers, dump trucks, a variety of other trucks professionally, and even did some accounting work. He was our mother’s caregiver through her final years with Alzheimer’s Disease.
He loved fishing, and many of us have stories about this. Uncle Tiller used to take him frequently when he was a little boy, and they continued going until Tiller couldn’t go anymore. Uncle Jim had a sweet memory of a fishing trip with him, and Tommy, Henry, and I went up in the mountains trout fishing a couple of times.
We will miss him being here, but we are so thankful that we know he is in Heaven. His final arrangements are being handled by Boston Funeral Home in Stone Mountain, Georgia.
