Raymond Head passed away on Friday, April 11, 2025.
Raymond Head was born in Fairfield, Alabama to the late Annie E. and Will Head on March 8, 1950. Raymond was educated in the Fairfield Public School System. He was a graduate of Fairfield Industrial High School.
After graduation, he relocated to Atlanta, Georgia. Where he helped build the Atlanta skyline to what it is today. Some of his work included working on the Cyclorama at Zoo Atlanta, Marriott Marquis, the first addition to the Hartsfield Jackson Airport, and a host of other projects. His favorite quote was, “It’s a good feeling to building something and see it still standing ten years later.”
On October 11, 2013, he married Susan Callair. Welding was his passion. Raymond was the proud owner of Head’s Welding Company. He was a member of the Iron Workers Local 387 Union and a past Masonic Mason. Raymond joined the Iron Workers Local 387 Union on December 1st, 1974. He completed his apprenticeship and topped out on March 1st, 1976. He was an active member and served two terms later in his career on the Executive Committee.
Raymond loved his family and friends as well as traveling around the world putting his welding experience to work. He had a passion for teaching others the correct way of welding.
Raymond was called to his heavenly home on April 11, 2025. Raymond leaves to cherish his memories his wife Susan Callair. Four children Tina Head Rolax; Raymond Head Jr. (Alzada); Marquis Head; and William Head (Amirah). One bonus child Zykia Callair (Kahlil). Thirteen grandchildren Justin; Kareemah; Ashley (Nathan); Angelica; Ryan; Malik; Camron; Aquisia; Jadon; Kaylee; Layla; Langston; and Zoe. Two bonus grandchildren Skylar Callair and Jiraya Callair-Martin. Nine great grandchildren Joshua; Cayden; N’Deah; Raegan; Alexys; Kristian; A’layah; Austin Jr.; and K’amari. Three siblings Jerry Head; Beverly Odom; Juanselyn Head Steele. As well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Four siblings that preceded in his death Fred Head; Darrell Head; Thessalonian Head; Doris Porter and a son-in-love Bernard Rolax.
Mr. Head will have a visitation on Friday, April 18, 2025, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. Funeral services for Mr. Head will be held at Boston's Funeral & Cremation Service on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at Melwood Cemetery.
