Stephen Mark Young

 Stephen Mark Young, 41, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly at his home on March 24, 2025. Born on September 11, 1983, in Thomasville, Georgia, Stephen led a life dedicated to education, service, and compassion. Stephen earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Social Work from Indiana University, followed by a PhD in Social Work from the University of Georgia, where he was recognized as both Student of the Year and Teacher of the Year—a testament to his exceptional commitment to his field. His academic career included teaching positions at the University of South Alabama and Ball State University. Stephen's greatest professional achievement was founding a counseling center in Atlanta, where he helped countless individuals through difficult times. His thoughtful and kind nature, coupled with his heart for disadvantaged people, made him an extraordinary counselor and advocate. Stephen is survived by his mother, Sharalee Lawyer of Indianapolis, Indiana; father, Joseph Young of Alexandria, Indiana; sisters, Charity Young of Pensacola, Florida and Elizabeth Young of Anderson, Indiana; and his beloved niece and nephew, twins Scarlett and Sebastian. He also leaves behind his grandmother, Toby Utley of Anderson and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as his cherished dog, Elle. In his leisure time, Stephen enjoyed volleyball, playing the piano, hiking, watching movies, and spending time with his friends, family, and dog. Stephen's compassionate spirit and dedication to helping others will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy will continue through the many lives he touched and the positive change he inspired in his community.
