Tarlice Barker Obituary

Tarlice, was born April 28, 1959 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Frank Barker, Sr.
and Marie Green Barker who both have preceded her in death.
Tarlice, the 2 nd oldest of 11 children, born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. Later,
migrating to Atlanta, GA as a young adult with her mother. Tarlice was known as
“Ta” to many and also our “Classy Lady”. She exuded the epitome of class and
Sass; especially when answering a phone call. Tarlice was a woman of grace and
class and very seldom raised her voice. Though she never birthed any children of
her own, she was a mother figure to many. She had an unwavering affection and
love for her nieces and nephews. She spoke quite highly of them often.
Tarlice, was the true example of what it means to love. The way she cared for her
mother was unmatched. Their bond was closer than close and unbreakable. We
all witnessed it.
Tarlice received her early childhood education in Chicago and attended Calumet
High School there as well. Tarlice held several positions throughout her working
years, but the one she loved, cherished and coveted the most was serving as
caregiver to professionals and their growing families. She truly loved them and
they loved her just as much. She could be found bragging on the children that she
cared for as if they were her very own. She remained in contact with them and
followed their successes and accomplishments along the way.
Tarlice was a lover of love in every sense. Especially when it came to her family.
She also held a special place in heart for her husband Terry Curry. Their union
brought her joy, compassion and growth as a woman of God. She often spoke of
her gratitude for Terry, who she says always showed her unconditional love
during her illness. She also expressed her appreciation for the loving nature he

continually gave her. Tarlice never hesitated to request prayer for their union and
for God’s grace, direction and covering over their marriage. She truly loved her
Terry through the ups and downs, challenges and triumphs.
More importantly, Tarlice loved God. She never hesitated to give glory to God for
her life. Her family affectionately called her “crybaby”. But she was ok with that
title because she was a “Miracle In Motion” and always reminded us it was
because of God’s grace and His love for her. Many years ago, Tarlice gave her life
to Christ. She was a member of Turner Monumental AME Church, in Atlanta, GA.
Later, she transferred her membership to Beulah Missionary Baptist Church in
Decatur, GA where she received her baptism under the leadership of Pastor, Rev.
Jerry D. Black. “Ta” loved gospel music and you could often find her either
watching or listening to her beloved Beulah on tv or YouTube. Yes--Tarlice loved
God.
Tarlice answered God’s call on Friday, May 9, 2025. Preceded in passing by her
parents, Frank and Marie Barker; oldest brother, Donovan Barker; Sisters, Travella
Barker and Tonia Barker Carmack; a younger brother, Andre Barker.
She leaves to cherish her fondest memories:
She is survived by, her niece (whom she raised), Teosha Barker (daughter of the
Late Travella Barker); Sisters, Teresa Harris of Chicago, IL (The Late Eugene
Harris), Tina Barker of Atlanta, GA, and brother, Frank of Chicago, IL (Chucky)
Barker, Jr.), Aunt, Linda Stepp, a Special cousin and caregiver; Shawn Williams and
special Aunt, Georgetta Dempsey of Savanna, GA, and a host of other loved ones
(nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends who she formed very close knit
relationships with throughout their lives.
